I wasn't sure I would read any more of these books, but I was going on a short road trip so I grabbed this one off my dresser. This was a much more enjoyable read than Family Reunion. This book is an adaptation of "Sacrifice" and is quite different from the episode that aired. We get glimpses into the Battle of Shiloh from Walter Rutledge's perspective and the dialogue has lots of new lines in it. I'm gonna list some "spoilers" below, since I'm sure most people won't be buying or reading this, so if you have any interest in reading this book but don't want to know any particulars about added information, I would simply say that it's much better than Family Reunion and has made me decide to read the other books in the series.
---- SPOILERS FOR THE BOOK ----
We get Walter Rutledge's perspectives because Fi has visions of him throughout the book. What's even weirder is that as Fi's reading the journal, she learns that Walter Rutledge had a vision of her, too. The descriptions of the battle are fairly gritty.
We learn that Jack apparently keeps one of his baby teeth on a string around his neck, which is bizarre, to say the least. Do people really do this? Why?
There are some continuity errors in this book. It says Rick died when Fi was four, but in "Will o' the Wisp," Fi said she was three.
Fi (and everyone else) thinks that Rick was killed by a drunk driver. It also says he was driving home from a recording session that night when he was killed, when Jack's dream in "Nightmare" indicates that Rick went out looking for something supernatural.
It says Molly stayed in bed for months after Rick died.
I don't view these books as canon, because they weren't written by any of the writers for the show, but this one's kind of fun.
