So I discovered what astral projection was by accident. About 8 years ago I was watching Unsolved Mysteries (love that show!) and I wanted to go to their website. Their website is unsolved.com but I didn't know so I typed unsolvedmysteries.com and it led me to a message board type of website that included everything paranormal and other stuff. I started searching the site and I clicked "Out of Body Experiences" and I started reading people's stories. Since then it captivated me. (so when I found out So Weird had an obe episode called Escape, I was ecstatic haha). I would even email some book writers and researchers back then on how to achieve it (I was like 11 *facepalm*) and they would message back!
Here is the wiki definition: Astral projection (or astral travel) is an interpretation of out-of-body experience (OBE) that assumes the existence of an "astral body" separate from the physical body and capable of traveling outside it. Astral projection or travel denotes the astral body leaving the physical body to travel in the astral plane.
So since then I kept trying to achieve an O.B.E. but I never did. The obsession has fizzled away but it still makes me excited when I hear about it (like it's mention in the movie Insidious)
So yea...

I actually have had on OBE before. It was awesome and terrifying at the same time because I was afraid I wouldn't be able to get back. I've tried to do it again, but when I get to the point where I'm almost there, I end up trying so hard that the tingly feeling that's there right before you leave goes away and I can't do it. The time I did it, it felt completely instinctive and I didn't even fully realize what I was doing until I was floating near the ceiling, staring at my sleeping body.

Oh wow!!!!! This is amazing. I've never spoken to anyone who has had one. I have read that many people do experience an obe but either forget or don't realize it. When you had yours, were you trying to sleep or trying to take a nap?

I used to attempt this as a teenager a lot. Never had any success, although I know some people who have. I was very surprised to see an episode about it.

Oh wow that is interesting to know! Yes as was I. So Weird took the quite an approach with that episode. (comparing it to Insidious approach)

When you had yours, were you trying to sleep or trying to take a nap? I was trying to sleep. It was about four in the morning, but I kept tossing and turning and just could not fall asleep. I was lying on my side when I felt my arms go all tingly and then the feeling spread and I had to try really hard to not move my arms because I felt like something was going to happen if I could just stay still. I felt like I was completely awake and hyper-aware of everything that was going on. It was like I felt myself rising up and saw myself rising up at the same time. The moment I felt myself floating above my body, I was like "Oh shit, how do I get back?" I tried swimming but it didn't work and I just floated higher, to the top corner of my room where I could see myself lying on the bed, in the exact same position I had been before the experience. Then I started freaking out and almost instantly, I felt myself back in my body, in my bed, under the covers. It felt like I was lying stomach-down, like I had fallen from the ceiling onto my bed, but when I opened my eyes I was still on my side, feeling very disoriented. For a while, I had just thought it was a super-vivid dream. But I usually remember my dreams and even the vivid ones are never that vivid. My cousin was the one who told me it was an OBE. Ever since I found out, I've been trying to do it again but I just can't make it from the tingly-stage to the actually leaving your body part. I wish I hadn't freaked out because that's what snapped me out of it before I really did anything or tried to go anywhere.

I like to watch shows about OBE during surgery, and how they look down at themselves being worked on. I can't imagine what it would feel like.

I think I have read that some hospitals have a symbol or numbers located high in the room for people who have obes/near death experiences. I'm not sure if that's true or not though. LittleDuck That is amazing to hear. Thanks for sharing!

I've read the same thing about something being written in hospitals in case of OBEs/NDEs and all the sources I read sounded skeptical of it, too.
But I also love reading up on NDEs. It's crazy how similar most of them are, but they always have some personal touches that make me inclined to believe that they aren't (all) faked.

I just re-watched the episode, Escape and wondered about that too. I've had dreams I think that I can't remember in full detail, i.e. where I am/went, but I remember the slight feeling of being somewhere else and not in my body but right now I'll just chalk it up to dreaming because it was never a consciously planned thing-- and at least in the So Weird episode, it appears to be done on purpose Also, I didn't feel any tingling sensation Would be cool to try it. I need to learn how to speak Portuguese soon and maybe visit The Center for Higher Studies of the Consciousness; j/k, but it does sound like something I would like to try though.

So I think I accidentally had another OBE.
There was a thunderstorm that woke me up around 3 in the morning and I was trying to go back to sleep for a while. After some time, I went to sit up so I could see the clock and check how much longer I had to sleep, but when I sat up I sat up out of my body. It was very sudden but as soon I sat up the sensation felt so familiar. I found myself floating upward and managed to keep calm because I wanted to explore a little, but I really didn't have any control over my movement. I just kept floating up, through my ceiling and in my attic and through the roof and then I was in a tunnel. It was mostly black, but there was white light beneath me and to the sides and I was moving through it very fast.
That part I think was really an OBE, but I'm not quite sure when the OBE ended or where dreaming began. At a couple points throughout the experience, I felt myself being pulled back and I tried really hard to stay. At one point I remember being back in my body, feeling so disoriented and convinced I was lying with my head at the foot of my bed when I knew I went to bed normally and then just going back to sleep because I was tired. I don't remember when that point occurred, chronologically.
After the tunnel, I found myself in a warehouse of sorts. I wasn't there alone-- there was a hand on my shoulder, but I couldn't see who it belonged to. There were a lot of people in the room. Some of them talking in groups, others kept to themselves. As I was passing through I saw someone I recognized and called out his name. He was one of the ones keeping to himself and didn't respond, but I felt he should know how his family is doing without him so I told him his daughter loves him. I didn't think he'd respond, but then he said "Good" in a sad voice. I had a feeling that I wasn't supposed to say anything and in any case, I just kept floating along through the room. I found myself in front of a woman who looked like my grandmother, but younger with long curled hair and the exact same face and eyes. I don't think we spoke, but we made eye contact and she smiled. I kept moving through and it came to me that this place was a "version of purgatory," for people not quite ready to move on. Some of them were comfortable there, some weren't.
I really don't know if the warehouse-ish thing was part of the experience or just a dream but damn it was... I don't even know the words for it.

oh my goodness! The warehouse part sounds pretty sad. The hand on your shoulder reminded me of the "angel" that Fi experienced when she went in that white light tunnel thing. Maybe it was a same experience like hers?
Thanks for sharing! Very interesting
