I've been interested in cryptozoology (aka the study and search for mystery creatures) since I was a little girl. This thread is for anyone sharing that interest and/or whoever wants to discuss unknown creatures of the world. Which are some of your favorite cryptids? Some of mine are below:
-Bigfoot / Sasquatch -Yeti -Yowie -Skunk Ape -Loch Ness Monster -Other lake monsters -Aliens -Chupacabra -Mothman -Jersey Devil -Mokele Mbembe -Rods -Werewolves
A lot of these are far-fetched, but I think Sasquatch-like creatures (bipedal apes) have a really good chance of being real. Aside from countless witness reports from all over the world, evidence has been found via footprint casts with dermal ridges, DNA hair samples that came back as inconclusive ape DNA in North America, and the famous Patterson footage (which may or may not be a hoax). Not saying I believe, but bipedal apes seem one of the most plausible cryptids to me. What do you guys think?

Ahhhh this makes me want to find those books I read when I was younger!
I think Bigfoot is the most interesting for me. Just some of the pictures I've seen have been pretty crazy,

The Jersey Devil used to really interest me as a kid because I live in NJ. The only time I ever heard anybody talk about it though was one class in fourth grade that was spent discussing it after the legend appeared in some social studies textbook. It scared the crap out of me and I remember being scared to go to sleep that night XD
None of the others ever freaked me out or captivated my attention, though. I guess stories like that are just scarier, more alluring when they take place close to home.

Do you believe in the Jersey Devil, LittleDuck? You know the expression "take it with a grain of salt?" I'm kind of the opposite on this issue... I 99% don't take it seriously, but I have to keep that one percent, one grain of salt open. I mean, it's become so commercialized that it's just hard to take seriously and I'm just naturally an incredibly skeptical person. But I've never spent a night in the Pine Barrens so I really can't talk. Maybe it exists or existed at one point, but until I hear about it from someone I'm sure is a reliable source, I'll be doubtful.

@ Gabby:
It was a name given to an ultra-low frequency and extremely powerful underwater sound detected by the U.S. National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) several times during 1997. The sound captured by the sensitive SOSUS hydrophones has scientists puzzled.
It fits the profile of a living creature, but for a creature to create this sound it would have to be significantly larger than a blue whale, which is believed to be the largest animal ever to have lived. The unexplainable sound was detected off the South American southwest coast at about 50° S 100° W. Perplexed researchers, unable to identify any possible source for the sound, dubbed it 'The Bloop.'
^(Quoted from an online article)
@ LittleDuck:
I'm 100% with you. I tend to be skeptical myself of many things.

Sailors originally thought manatees were mermaids! Isn't there also a show on Animal Planet about them? Mermaids: the evidence (or something like that)

Yeah, and before that it was Mermaids The Body Found which was viewed by millions in the US and millions more from other countries. and Animal Planet got in trouble with the US Government because of it, Also the guy who was an actor playing Dr. Paul Robertson had a real twitter once and he posted a site called believeinmerrmaids.com back in 2012, Then it got blocked, with a government censorship block on it. today if you go to the site it says "Server can't be found"
This makes no fucking sense, Mermaids are fake.. right? so.. Why did the government block a site that has facts about a mythical fake creature?

I can't speak on that as I have no information. I've seen previews for the Animal Planet show claiming to have video evidence but all they ever show (on commercials) are cheap CGI shots of weird looking mer people. So I haven't watched the show. Has anyone here?
