Hey everyone! We are less than six months away from So Weird's 20th anniversary.
The premiere episode, "Family Reunion," aired on January 18, 1999.
I think it'd be great if we could all celebrate the show together somehow. 20 years is a huge milestone, even for our little fandom. If you have any ideas, please share! The more the merrier, and we can certainly do more than one thing.
----------
Maybe on the various social media platforms in the week leading up to the anniversary we can start discussions on certain topics every day, such as asking people to talk about who their favorite character was, episode, etc We could create a hashtag so everyone can see everyone's answers.

Wow, 20 years unbelievable!! Doesn't feel like it was that long ago. As for an idea for the anniversary, I know that in the past fans have done commemoration books/ebooks on shows they love. Like for Gravity Falls, fans create a art book full of fanart people on the net have created. Doctor Who have done short stories collection where fans submit their own stories to be part of the collection. Maybe So Weird fans can do something like that? Or maybe do something like recreate Fi's website and have it so people can submit art and stories on that in true So Weird Fashion. Just a bunch of ideas i guess #20yrsSoWeird

Those all sound like great ideas, retroheart! Don't know who would take the time to recreate Fi's webpage but I have dreamed of someone doing that for a while. And I'd love to see more fanart and fanfiction! We've mentioned people sending those in on the podcast a few times but haven't seen much new of either lately.

Thanks Rockerbaby and thebossapplesauce I can look into finding out ways to get a website recreation going, I've done a website design at uni so I know a thing or two. Not exactly an expert like Fi mind you but I can get the ball rolling at least. There's Wix, that website builder that has come out in the past couple of years. That could be a good start. I think it's the kind of builder that doesn't require people to have a vast coding knowledge (which can be a relief for some I do know that). Plus tracking down or replicating the website imagery shouldn't be to hard if you know where to look. Maybe if fans on the net knew about, they would want to be a part of it. It could be a team effort or something. Maybe even the website could have that online story like SOV Season 2 one but a new story instead. All in all, I don't see why not? I mean the fanbase is definitely active, you got the boards here, the social media and the podcast going smoothly. As for fanart and fiction, I do want to get the ball rolling on that at least and post stuff that I have been working on. Overall, It's worth a shot!

Among all the shows I watched during my childhood, So Weird was my absolute favorite!

Maybe someone can make a fan video for the 20th anniversary. I have been thinking about that lately. Make a video that is a collection of So Weird fan art, photos of fans, cast, and crew members, maybe some clips clips from the Dave Ward interview on the So Weird podcast, etc...Put it all together and set it to the lyrics "While I Stare". It can be a music video that represents how we, the fans, look back on the memory of yesterday, when the show once aired, and indulge in our nostalgia, and those are the memories that we share here today through this website and the podcast.

Sounds like a very ambitious idea, retroheart, but also lots of fun.
I like the idea for a video, too. We tried to do a So Weird fan revival project a while back where fans were supposed to send in clips of themselves talking about what they loved about So Weird but that fell through. But the idea you have about incorporating fan art, old cast photos, and bits from the podcast sounds more promising and offers more ways for fans to contribute other than sending in a video clip of themselves.

I love the hashtag idea! Even #SoWeird20 could work.
Maybe we can kick off the celebration the week of the Family Reunion premiere and then celebrate through the rest of the year? I think that would give us time to plan things out, get more people involved, and do different things so if someone doesn't want to do one thing they can be included in a different way.
Possible ideas: - bring back the 30 days of So Weird (there's already a template available) - do a contest/giveaway on different platforms in different months (twitter in January, tumblr in April, Facebook in July, Instagram in November, or however) - maybe do a scavenger hunt across the platforms? Hide clues in posts/video descriptions/the forum (not sure what the winner(s) would get though) - create polls and discussions for people to answer and get involved in conversations - extend the podcast by focusing on different characters? an entire ep of Molly, one for Jack, etc. The hosts can discuss favorite story lines, moments and quotes, ask fans to take polls and share the results (Emily sorta did this when she did the poll for top episodes awhile back) - do a fan edition podcast: people can submit audio files (30sec-1min?) where they talk about what So Weird has meant to them. This could take some time to edit and piece together but if the celebration is all year there would be time to put it together before 2019 ends. - have people submit stories of how much they love the show - it can be read on the podcast or posted and linked on social media

I love the idea of extending the podcast by having special episodes focusing on different characters/aspects of the show. I would personally be down for that.

Thanks for bumping this thread! I was meaning to.
Yes, 30 of So Weird would be great! It's something we can suggest to our podcast listeners and I will definitely reblog it again on my blog once we get closer. I also like the idea of a fan edition podcast. The character episodes for podcasts sounds like a lot of work but might be something everyone would be interested in.
#SoWeird20 is a great hashtag. Perhaps we could do prompts for the Monday-Friday week leading up to the anniversary (which is on a FRIDAY). They could be: - Favorite Episode - Favorite Song - Scariest Episode - Favorite Character Thoughts on the 5th prompt?
Keep the ideas coming everyone!

Wow, so crazy that's it's going to be 20 years since the show aired!!
Recreating a fully functioning So Weird website would be really rad! I remember using ICQ messenger back in the day because it looked the closest to Fi's fictional "InstaGab" messenger. Maybe someone could embed a messenger system into a website like that. Somewhere on a hard drive I have a folder with all of the original icons, I'm just not sure where it is! I may have to try and look harder before Jan 19th!

To add to the ones above:
-Favorite Hairstyle -Favorite Sibling Moment
-Best/Favorite Parental Advice (even if and Jack aren't blood related, their conversation in Tulpa is one of my favorites)

Those are great ideas! I was thinking we could make a graphic that has all the prompts listed that we can post at the beginning of the week.
Maybe the fifth one should just be "why I loved So Weird." That way even people who haven't watched the show in a while might be able to contribute?
- Favorite Episode
- Favorite Song
- Scariest Episode
- Favorite Character - Why I Loved So Weird

I'm just writing this here to make myself more accountable for whatever happens-- I've had plans to make a huge auto-tune remix of So Weird for a long time, but I'm going to try to make maybe, like, a short piece for this anniversary. : ) So Weird is one-of-a-kind, and if we can at LEAST gain some kind of similar momentum to Hey Arnold! recently, maybe there's a shot at a proper boxset release, at the LEAST. Twenty-FIVE years is a pretty big anniversary, even for the teensiest of blips on the pop culture radar. Let's not put away Rick's guitar just yet.
