If we put aside the fact that Disney wanted to go in another direction for Season 3, do we think that most of the plots that were building in season 2 and 3 could have been developed without Cara? If so, would they still send Fi away or would they continue without her? I think that 3 headed monster in twin could have shoved her off the building and then they all had to go after everything to rescue both Rick and Fi. Since Cara agreed to do 1 episode in season 3, could that have been the last episode where they rescue Fi and Rick (it could have been a short 5 minute guest appearance).
I know this is speculation but the question has always intrigued me.

I doubt, most of the plots were really focused on Fi, like the aliens one. The way that Fi gave up her "touch" with the supernatural to protect her family was something nice but it left too many things open. Perhaps a S4 could have had Annie going after the answers for Fi, finding out about the aliens thing and perhaps helping Fi get back in the tracks of the supernatural.

It would have rather made more sense to do so to have Fi appear in the end of the season and have her taken in Twin. Even though her final episode had to be filmed first, they could easily filmed the finale first up and let Cara go and do other stuff. So that way, they could film the rest of it without her and save the episode with her in it for the end. It would have worked better to do so and a much more satisfying ending if Fi came back in the end. When I saw the final episode with everyone so happy and celebrating, I was sitting there thinking "Great! But half of you still think Fi is crazy and get away with your stubborn denial!!" That really gets me, I know both Molly and Jack were uncomfortable with the weird but couldn't they make the damm effort for Fi's sake because she wants to know more about her Dad for crying out loud. I'm seriously!! I know production wise Cara wanted to leave and they had to her out pronto but story wise, it makes it seem Molly would rather have a more comfortable life of denial than rather patch things up with her daughter. Doesn't even fight for her to stay. Makes it hard for me to like the rest of the Phillips Family. They just let Fi go because it's like they want the easy way out then rather face things. And that's a whole story element that they could have dealt with for the third season. Having to fix that family dynamic so they can all come together and accept the fate of Rick. But again production wise, it's something they couldn't really cover but that's how it comes out. :/ So having said that Darbme, I reckon they could easily have done something with focusing on the rest of the family and creatively worked around Cara's departure to have a more satisfying conclusion. So it would have been possible but Disney back then wanted otherwise so what's done is done unfortunately. Sometimes the production side of things can't be controlled as much as you want.
