Hi All!
So, I have been listening to the So Weird podcast and re-watching the episode "Destiny," because next to "Banshee," it is one of my favorites. And I have a thought. I would like your feedback on my idea.
So, I know it has been pointed out that the purpose of Bricriu's presence in "Destiny" is questionable, and somewhat confusing. In fact, trying to figure that out is one of the reasons that I keep watching the episode. I know it is important, because Bricriu reveals that Fi's father died before his time. But...couldn't he have made that known to her without involving Tom Martinez?
Here is what we know: He already stated in Will-O-the-Wisp that he is a "saint," compared to the evil forces that he serves. Also, as Zack mentioned in the "Destiny" podcast, it seems to be the general consensus that Bricriu does not necessarily want to hurt Fiona.
So here is my theory: maybe Bricriu is an intuitive supernatural creature. He knew that Fiona was in danger, and that one way or another, she would be caught in that fire with Tom, even though he and Molly were not in his vision. Maybe he came along, because he wanted to see to it that he, himself, carried out Tom's vision and started the fire. He wanted to make it reality, because he wanted to see to it that the fire was not nearly as dangerous as it could have been. The situation would probably have been much more fatal if a different supernatural force stepped in to control that part of the future. Thus, overall, he was present to save Fiona's life, and to tell her the truth about her father.
So basically, starting the fire allows Bricriu to remain under the guise of a menacing will-o-the-wisp who serves his masters, but it also allows him the opportunity to be on Fiona's side, by seeing to it that they can escape the fire, and by "accidently" saying the truth out loud to Fiona, about Rick. The reason he leaves them to fend for themselves in the warehouse is because if he helps them escape, his masters will know him to be a traitor, and he made it very clear in the episode that he didn't want anything or anyone from the spirit world to know that he was with Fiona.
This dawned on me when I re-watched the Lightning Rod episode, and Bricriu referred to the warehouse fire, saying "Don't be a baby, you got out fine." I don't think Bricriu would have said that if he wanted her to die in the fire, and thus, I don't think he would say that unless he intentionally made it so that it would be possible for her to escape.
