Well, I see that nobody has commented on Annie Thelen, so I will go ahead and start. Personally, I never had a problem with Annie being in the series. The only thing is, I just never understood why the lead actress was replaced. Anyway, there are (and were) things I really like about Annie. For starters, I admire her for her musical talent. She has such a beautiful voice and I love her solo songs, as well as her duet with Molly when they sing "One in a Million World." When I was a kid watching this show on TV, I will admit I also thought she was quite beautiful, and I wished I could be just as pretty in appearance.

I agree... personally, I don't get why so many people dislike her so much. I mean, I was the same as a kid... I didn't like her because I preferred Fi and stopped watching during S3 because of that, but as an adult rewatching it for the first time back in like 2012... I actually grew to love her. Of course, I am maybe a little biased because I also love Alexz.
Interesting fact... even though I saw very little of S3, it was actually Annie/her panther that got me back into it as an adult. For some reason I couldn't remember the name of the show or any of the characters, but I did remember there was a lot of music... but most of all, the picture of a panther with glowing eyes laying next to a pink wall stuck out in my mind. I was doing a search based on that little image in my head and that's how I refound SW.

Now I realize that I was being silly and I appreciate her a lot now. I just don't like the lighter vibe that the show seemed to take on when Annie was starring in S3. I prefered the original dark tone, but I still can see good sides to S3 as well.

Random thought that crossed my sleepy mind. LOL... I wonder where the last place Annie lived prior to Season 3 was? Could be literally anywhere.
Clu mentions South America, in a manner that says they've probably lived all over. Obviously there's Peru at least, but it's stated she hasn't been there since she was a little kid...
Also her parents are in the process of relocating to Pakistan, so it's possible she's moving from that side of the world. This is supported by kids at school saying Annie's lived all over the world.

Good question and something that I hadn't given much though to. "Relocating" suggests they were there and now going back. I'm a big Alexz Johnson fan and I like Annie as a character although at first I was bummed about Fi leaving. During the initial run, I mainly watched for the character development of the Phillips and Bell family and for Molly's amazing music. In recent years of my re-watching my tapes of the series, I have come to appreciate and enjoy Season 3 for what it is. I only wish that some of the threads from the first 2 seasons could have been carried over (I know it would be impossible for all of them to be). But it would be nice to hear or see Rebecca and James again Now I think that Annie is a good character and the season is nice. I have convinced myself that in season 3, Fi actually left for Aunt Melinda's to "further the investigation" instead of living a normal life -- so who knows what kind of mysteries were happening at the time

I like Annie, I just hated the new writing direction. Fi leaving, writing direction or not, wasn't something that was a factor. Fact was, Cara De Liza wanted to leave . I wish they could have kept the same writing direction at least. I feel like the darkest season 3 got was Annie and her panther. Had Disney gone forward with the original season 3 plans, it could have easily been revised without Cara. They could have still done some of the original plans like Jack's past life as a knight. Instead, everything from seasons 1 and 2 were practically dropped, including the house. The only times they seemed to acknowledge seasons 1 and 2 were obviously Lightening Rod, and The Muse, with the exception of a couple of instagab chats Annie had with Fi.

I agree one hundred percent. I miss the old vibe that the original two seasons had. I also think that they should have stayed as true to the original plan as they could have managed. I do like Annie. She was a good addition, though I prefer Fi and the old atmosphere of the series.

Yeah. Had the original vibe been there, at least it had a chance of being a semi successful season with the fans. Season 3 gets bashed a lot for the change in lead characters (again, Cara's decision to leave, not the writers' fault there), and the writing style. Many episodes (getting trapped in a painting, cameras stealing souls, bees turning into humans) were so childhish, and only had a small amount of good episodes. Most were silly. Sure, there were a few silly ones in season 2 (Avatar, which was originally supposed to be an episode about Carey having a drinking problem, and Shelter), but 90 percent of season 2 was strong. Season 1 was less dark, but was still not as childish compared to season 3. Annie herself I liked, but the writing style was completely disappointing. On the original airing I didn't mind it, but after skipping most episodes during rewatches, I binged watched the entire thing over the summer. That's when I couldn't believe how bad it was to when I watched the season on its original airing as a kid.

I like Annie, too. Sometimes I try to incorporate her into my version of a (more like originally planned) season 3 or season 4. S3 is difficult, because she doesn't really have a place there, as a new entry to an already existing story arc. S4 after Rick is back and that storyline is wrapped up would be easier. Though I'd have to wonder about the parents' decision to put her in that situation - or put Molly in it, given the recent upheaval of her life.
I like AJ as an actress, and find the character pleasant to watch, but she doesn't feel as fully realized as the Phillips. Part of the season 3 difference. But she's more like Carey & Clu to me, in that regard. I don't know what drives her, what her particular flaws are, etc. She loves music, and she needs her relationship with Molly (whom she very much seems to regard as a surrogate mother by the end, though I don't recall if that was just done for the finale or actually fleshed out from her original "mentor" role). But that's pretty much all I have for her.
It's shame because it would have been interesting to see the character with plot/development on par with the earlier seasons.

I liked the fact Annie was so friendly, outgoing, and unafraid to do what she wanted. She had an aurora of convience surrounding her that you couldn't help to be pulled into. And the fact she was away from her parents and thrust into a new environment never really seemed to phase her; she went with it all in stride. Now if I were to give my thoughts on Annie twenty years ago this would have been very different LOL.
