Jon Cooksey also was amazingly kind enough to send me the original script for "Banshee" without me even asking for it. The reason he did this was because I had a question about the ending. He told me that in the original script, Fi was going to give up years of her life in order to save her grandfather. Disney thought that a minor shouldn't be allowed to make a decision like that, so he had to change it.
Jon also explained that he changed it so that there was a sense that Death owed Fi a favor after taking Rick before his time.
The Original Script to Banshee
For those interested, here is a copy of Jon Cooksey's replies to me in the e-mail conversation.

This is so awesome! Banshee is one of my favorite episodes of the series so I love this! I also love that they were planning on bringing back mention of the spellbook from Strangeling and explaining the O'Shiannon line and confirmation that Molly was supposed to have a priest brother (I remember hearing rumors that he would have been involved in exorcising Bricriu from Fi in season 3) and that Fi would have climbed out a window to sneak out. And AWWWWW at the additional material with Jack talking to his gramma about Gabe. So cute!

I read through this all the way even though I should definitely be working right now.
It's so cool of him to share this with us. I'm in shock about it, really. I've been wondering for years about that rumor, decide to tweet him about it finally, he responds within minutes and then sends me the actual script the next day! Amazing. I love all of the insight it gives into how much his writing influenced the end result, down to the white king being knocked over on the chessboard.
Yeah, I like the inclusion of the "Strangeling book," too. It deserved more involvement throughout the show, but I get why they didn't bring it back, seeing as they didn't want Fi casting spells much.
As for Fi giving up years of her life... damn, that would have been such a bold move. I guess I understand why Disney didn't want to go there, but they also let Fi donate bone marrow as a minor when that's not even legal. Haha.
The wording of the dialogue interests me, because Fi talks about losing her dad before his time, so that could be taken as foreshadowing for the reveal in "Destiny."

Wow that was really interesting to read a different version of the script. This is one of my favorite episodes, but I always thought it was strange the magic book was never brought up again so it's neat seeing that originally it was supposed to be. It's really awesome that Jon Cooksey is still interested in answering and talking to the fans of this show so many years later. It seems like he really was invested in telling this story, it's just so unfortunate he didn't get to do the Season 3 he had in mind...

What a beautiful read! The "additional material" at the end where grandma and Jack were talking about Gabe and her gift of the angel necklace, I couldn't help but see some additional connections that perhaps Jack & Gabe were "meant to be" like Rick & Molly. Especially considering Fi was a match for Gabe maybe they were meant to be. I only wish Jack's visit to Gabe's farm could have been made into an episode.
Also loved reading the dialogue where Fi begs for her grandpa's life by willing to give up a few years of her own. I've long speculated about what they actually said but now I know!
