I watched the show back during it's original run and I may have done some reruns after that - not sure. Anyway, I hadn't seen it for years, but was reminded of it a few days ago and binge watched the first two seasons.
I don't much remember my original impressions from all those years ago. I remember liking Fi/Clu and Annie/Carey (not sure how strongly), and that the idea of Molly/Carey occurred to me. I don't remember being a strong shipper for anyone but Jack/Gabe, and that was because of the end of "Vampire" and because even then I didn't like one-episode love interests that were completely forgotten the next week. I do remember that even back then, I loved the sibling relationship between Jack and Fi, and I still do. Oddly, I had forgotten about some of the conflict with Molly and Fi - and that Molly kept Rick's interest a secret from her.
The episodes that I actually remembered a significant portion of the plot of were "Memory", "Angel", "Lost", "Listen", "Mutiny", "Second Generation", "Banshee", and "Annie's Song" - there were maybe a half dozen others ("Lightning Rod" the only one from season 3) that I remembered bits and pieces of. I remembered Rick had two sisters and nieces.
I really had forgotten a fair bit of the arc-stuff, which is kind of odd, since I loved arc-stuff even back then (I quit watching X-Files because the arc continuity was dreadful and never paid off with real answers). I really enjoyed that, this time though. I really do not remember if I got the full weight of Molly's emotions when I was younger. Definitely got Fi's and Jack's. But Molly has just so much pain. And I've turned into an absolutely incurable Molly/Rick fan. I really enjoy all the Phillips family dynamics. There is just so much there. The Bells, on the other hand, are supporting characters. and Irene are fairly one-note. Clu and Carey don't have a lot of range (in the first two seasons, anyway), either, compared to the Phillips. Carey a bit more, I think. But they're sweet and funny. I'd be more tempted to flesh out Carey than Clu, myself.
Anyway, looking forward to reading what everyone has to say.
