Hey Weirdos!
I made a change to our emoticons. There were a few that were hardly used so I replaced them with a new batch plus some more So Weird reactions. Let me know if… there are specific ones you want back and/or you want a particular gif taken down/added. I can add memes too if desired.
What’s next?
In the upcoming weeks I think I’ll start to merge older posts and threads together. Deleting things will mess with our history - that's not the plan! But I can make things easier to find, do quality control on links, and make sure this place we've spent so much time in stays relevant so all of us + future users always have the right information.
Share any ideas you might have about making our forum more accessible. And if you have something in mind on how to celebrate the 25th anniversary (January 18), do tell!

I actually have more suggestions for the Discord server than the boards. I'm more of a Discord user than a Proboards user LOL
But, I don't mind posting in and out of the boards. Hopefully, I can get some of my new So Weird recruits in here to help make it somewhat active LOL
But, the Discord Server could use quite an update :/

I'm more of a Discord user than a Proboards user LOL The Discord is definitely more active compared to the Forum, but giving this place a little update since not much has changed in the last decade is overdue. Plus, with the 25th anniversary of the show next year the timing seems perfect.
What do you have in mind for the Discord? 👀

What do you have in mind for the Discord? 👀 For the Discord, whoever the owner is of that server (or anyone with that kind of power) can turn on the "Onboarding" feature. This will allow new members to answer a set of questions before entering the server. Keep in mind, the "Onboarding" feature requires five different text channels (not forum nor voice channels) for the "@ everyone" role to leisurely post in. Can probably have a "Welcome" Text Channel (different than the "Introduction" Text Channel), "Introduction" Text Channel (different than the "Welcome" Text Channel), "General Chat" Text Channel, "Support" Text Channel and w/e else kind of Text Channel you can think of. I have a different approach but, for now, I'mma keep it simple ;P Most servers use this "Onboarding" feature for those wanting to have their names, in the server, appear a certain color. It can (also) be used for those wanting to opt in or out of the Server's News/Updates. Make sure these are set as "Required" questions to be answered before proceeding forward. Some of the questions can be set to select more than one answer, as well. I usually don't do this for "What Color Do You Want Your Name to be" question. I have the multiple selections for a variety of server roles to be selected, like Open Microphone Users, those who want Server News/Updates, etc. Keep in mind, these require the roles to actually be created, in the server. IK there's no such Server Role as "Green" nor "Red", for those who want to display their Discord Names as "Green" or "Red". Before turning on the "Onboarding" feature, you should probably have these Roles ready to be selected, to tie in to each answer. Those who joined prior to the "Onboarding" being turned on, will still have access to these questions, as they'll be available, within the server, itself. I have a couple (as in 2) of Discord Servers centered around shows, myself, that offer a bit more services than the "So Weird" Discord. I don't even see a Text Channel reserved for Questions, Comments, Concerns, etc., for the Server. I use this Discord Bot called " Ticket Tool". It auto creates private channels, for you (and as long as you allow it to have those permissions), whenever somebody clicks on the ticket button. And only the owner (and possibly other staff members, if the Bot is set up that way, which it should be) and the person who opened the ticket, can hold a private conversation for any comments, questions, concerns, etc. OFC, you don't need this Bot. You can always just straight up make a Channel called "Support" or w/e. It just won't be as private, like the "Ticket Tool" does. Maybe turning on the Server to be a "Community" server, so it'll have a "Rules" channel. Along with having a Text Channel designated for News/Updates. I would (also) suggest having a VC called "Watch the Show". Make sure members can stream (or create a "Streamer" role, when you do the "Onboarding" questions, as part of the selections) in that channel, so we can watch the show, together, in the Server. Instead of just the one single VC called "General". If I want to watch the show, I don't want to hear about someone's life (no offense). Having separate channels would help declutter. I'd (also) suggest decluttering the plethora of Text Channels and using the new Forum Feature, to condense down all of the Text Channels. For example, setting up a "Discussion" Forum (instead of a hashtag symbol next to the channel names, it'll be two chat bubbles) will allow certain topics to be under that section. You can create tags for it, so people can click on the tags to only have topics show up with a particular tag. Can set up a "S1" Tag, a "S2" Tag and a "S3" Tag will help with the organization. Setting up a "Gallery" Forum will help, as well to have like a "Pets" tag, or "Fi" Tag, or "Selfies" Tag, to help declutter those wanting to show off their own personal photos vs those wanting to share set photos. It'll be easier to find. These are just some of my suggestions

The Owner (or anyone with access to this power) can view how the "Onboarding" feature will work, from a member's point of view. I have screenshots to share, what it looks like: You can see how I haven't selected anything, it won't let me proceed to the next question. This is how I have my colors set up. Now, that I've selected one of the options, I can proceed forward with the next question. The above only allows for one single answer and not multiple answers, like my next screenshots will show: Same as the colors, will not let me proceed forward with the next question, until I select an answer. This is a multiple select answer question. People can choose to receive server notifications, be an open microphone user in voice chats or push to talk (PTT). And, somebody willingly to stream or not stream. Make sure the streamer and open mic users are set up correctly in your voice channels, otherwise the role isn't going to work LOL Likewise, with those wanting to be notified. Instead of "@ everyone-ing", you can "@ whatever role is set-up to be the role for News/Updates", to ping for notifications.

To avoid all this extra work (and keep it simple), maybe just have the "Support" channel and create specific roles/channels upon request like somebody wanting their name to be a specific color, wanting access to be an Open Mic User/Streamer, a voice channel to only watch the show, etc. At the very least, we can start from there.
Just, the "Onboarding" feature helps condenses down those requests LOL

I admit, like most of my hobbies or projects these days, I don't keep up to date on how best to optimize and instead, go for simple. Is there a way I can assign someone as a mod, where they can make these changes?

I admit, like most of my hobbies or projects these days, I don't keep up to date on how best to optimize and instead, go for simple. Is there a way I can assign someone as a mod, where they can make these changes? If you're up for it, sure. You'll most likely have to create a separate Role for it and turn on the "Administrator" function, for that Role which practically unlocks everything (that Discord has to offer) for that Role, to "assign" someone to do all of that (which I can probably help with, if you trust me enough to do so LOL). Best to do this on the computer, though. From the computer, there will be your server name with a drop down arrow for more options, on the top left of the server. Click on the drop down menu and select "Server Settings". From "Server Settings" click on "Roles". From "Roles" click on "Create Role". From "Create Role" title the role "Mod" or something distinguishable enough for you to understand what this role will be doing. The default name will be "new role", if you don't change it. After changing the default name to "Mod" (and saving the changes, when the little pop-up window asks for it) or something distinguishable, click on "Permissions". From "Permissions" scroll all the way down to where it says "Administrator" and turn on that function. A small pop-up window will appear, at the bottom, asking you to "save changes". Click on "Save Changes". After you do all that, you can click on the "X" in the circle that says "Esc", on the top right of the "Roles" section. It'll bring you back to the server. Right click the member you wish to make a "Mod". After right-clicking the name of the member you wish to make a Mod, a menu will pop up, and you'll want to find "Roles" (it'll be on the bottom, of the menu). Hover (NOT click) over "Roles" and select the box of the new "Mod" role you just created for them to do all of the things you need help with doing. Yes, it sounds confusing, but it's really simple, at the end of the day. I'd love to help out and wouldn't mind getting demoted after inserting all of the things I suggest should be there LOL
