While at a bed and breakfast, Fi suspects that the animal preying on local farms may be a werewolf.

This is probably my favorite episode!
After the fam drives up to the house they're staying in, there's a sign that says Pretty Meadows Bed & Breakfast. There's a real place in Newport, PA that goes by the name Pretty Meadow Farm (no "s") and it's a bed and breakfast that sits on over 100 acres that people can stay in. link There's an ad here that says it's for sale. PA is not where they filmed, but it's great that some of the locations seem to be based on real places.

I just watched this one yesterday, played it back-to-back with the podcast discussing it. I loved this one, this is how you create low-budget horror. The writers and director are to be commended. I really thought Laura was going to kill Fi. The use of red infrared shots was a nice touch. Although I can see why Disney doesn't reair it today, I think it is too scary for this generation. We could take it, because we were coming from a generation surrounded by horror, (Friday the 13th, Halloween, Texas Chainsaw). We could also get away with catching more gorier stuff on TV back then as ratings weren't heavily enforced. So Weird was a product of its time, a product we will never see the like of again, especially for children.

I just had a random thought as I was listening to the podcast.... I wonder how one becomes a werewolf in So Weird? Different shows have different mythologies with that - In Buffy you have to get bitten or scratched by a werewolf... in The Vampire Diaries universe it is basically in your DNA and if you have the gene and someone dies by your hand, even by accident, you're basically doomed. Also how does one become a vampire in the So Weird universe?

Also how does one become a vampire in the So Weird universe? I thought it heavily implied that one did not become werewolf in So Weird, but rather it was matter of genetics. Especially since Laura was found as an infant. For Vampires - we had an ep for that. They almost made Jack a vamp, and we saw the lead up to the process and know it involved neck-biting. The question is whether or not that's the only way. One of the vampires did have vampire father. I'm generally more inclined to say both father and son were turned, since vampires are sterile in fiction fairly often, but we don't have any solid evidence that son wasn't born after dad became a vamp. I don't think so, though, since dad was run out of town by Rick, and it seems to me son was already living apart from his then and so on.

I think this is one of the best standalone episodes and really well-done horror media. Everything is really polished. The writer really got a good balance of straight-up scares and apprehension to create an atmosphere of tension that effectively builds to a climax and concludes. The director handled his side of things well to just really bring the episode to its fullest as a horror show with Shining-esque mise-en-scène and leading the actors to compelling performances. The child actor who plays Laura is great. "I'm scared of the wolf" still moves me. It's brilliant.
Quick question: Does Laura's name show up in another episode as one of Fi's pen-pals?

Hey guys, I was just watching So Weird On Disney Plus (So Glad I finally Sign Up for it, I was on the fence for a while). It's really cool to see the episodes in full quality, you get to see little details about the show that you wouldn't normally pick with the episodes recorded off tv in the past. Because of this, there was something I've noticed when I clicked over to the werewolf episode. In the opening scene when Molly, Jack, Carey and Fi get off the Bus to see the roadkill on the road. I've noticed that when Fi comes onto screen from around the Bus behind Molly and the Boys, it's NOT Cara! At least it doesn't really look like her. I could be wrong but from what I can tell, it looks like a stand in/look alike of sorts. Maybe the same one who stood in for Cara in Earth 101? I mean, you only hear Fi's voice from the back of the Bus when she says "What Happened?" and from the way the camera is shot and the where Molly and the Boys are positioned within that shot, Fi's face is obscured most of the time. The shot where Fi is being observed by Laura in werewolf form, I think it's a different location from the rest of the scene. But the way the scene is played out in the dark, you would never have known. I think because I'm studying film and media, I'm staring to pick this sort of thing up but yeah, thought it was worth mentioning.

What a great find! I took screenshots of the ep but couldn't get them uploaded here, so I made them a blog post. It's such a bummer that so often minor characters don't get listed in the credits. I'm so curious on who it is! I have so many questions!
ETA: Got them uploaded! Click the link above or the pics below to increase the image size.

Thanks Mischievous Monkey! Glad you like the find. Just had a look at the screenshots you took, Yeah that was the scene I was talking about. Nice work on getting the timing just right to capture the shot of Fi's Double. Definitely wouldn't have picked this up with the recorded TV episode version. It is a shame about the minor cast, maybe they're credited elsewhere. The underage to film at night theory could be the reason but there have been plenty of other episodes where Cara was out at night before and after this episode. Maybe Cara Deliza just couldn't make it to that particular scene. The production crew did a good job with working around it if that was the case.
