I think “Web Sight” ended up being the book that was least loyal to the episode. Actually, the main dialogue is all in the book, but there is a ton of extra material in this one. This is due to the fact that the book is told from a third person omniscient perspective, which I find very annoying to read. Every few sentences, the perspective changes and we learn the thoughts of all the main characters. We even are told the thoughts of the woman who works at the newspaper.
(spoilers below)
There are extra scenes in the book, such as a conversation between Molly and Irene about the impact of life on the road on the kids, and stuff of Jack and Clu being extra goofy for the documentary. There’s even a new song that Molly wrote after she talked to Ty called “Not Buying Into It.” The lyrics are:
No matter what you say
I’m not running away
You’re selling doubt and anxiety
But I’m not buying it for me
I’m not buying into it
I’m not buying into it
We also get some small references to what Rick used to do and say, such as “Molly can find the good in anything.”
Fi gets more hints of the coming bus crash in this book in the form of nightmares and horoscopes.
Funnily enough, Clu calls himself an only child in this book when I'm pretty sure he mentioned Carey in the "Strangeling" book that released before this one and we know Clu mentions Carey in the "Strangeling" episode.
It's interesting to note that at the end of the book, Fi sends an e-mail back to Unknown and gets a return to sender e-mail. This is something we talked about on the podcast.
As I've said before, I don't consider any of this canon personally, but some might enjoy this one because of all the insight we get into the characters' thoughts. For me, it was too much.
