Among all the shows I watched during my childhood, So Weird was my absolute favorite!

Hello All! Tonight I had the pleasure of meeting Mackenzie Phillips at her book signing and discussion of her latest work, "Hopeful Healing." My encounter with her was very brief, but one I will forever remember. Fifteen years of wishing for an opportunity to see her in person was granted for me tonight; it came down to her signing my copy of Hopeful Healing, giving me a , and taking a picture with me. Mackenzie is a very sweet person, and she has so much strength in the face of her real-life challenges! In her book, she promotes and encourages healing and hope in the face of many issues such as drug/alcohol addictions, mental health, and trauma. In my case, I do not personally deal with these issues (although I have loved ones who do), but it was worth it to pick up her book, attend her discussion, and witness her strength firsthand. After her discussion, there was a Q&A. I raised my hand and asked: "When you starred on So Weird from 1999-2001, did any of the songs you sang from the show stick with you, or inspire your recovery? I read your book today and kept thinking of the lyric "Just when I thought I lost my sight, I catch a glimpse of that beautiful light." First off, she whispered "yes!" to herself when I mentioned So Weird, and even belted a lyric from "In the Darkness." And then she answered: "The lyrics that sticks with me most is: Surrender, we'll win the fight This girl's walked through fire and ice But I've come out on the other side of paradise"In short, Mackenzie is AMAZING! It was such an honor to meet her and to learn that her music from So Weird still sticks with her.

Thank you so much for sharing your experience meeting Mack and your beautiful pictures. It is so cool you were able to ask her a question - and it was a really good question!! I have hoped that doing the music on So Weird was therapeutic for her, especially because its so emotionally rich and now we know all these years later that she was dealing with so much. I think Mack did an amazing job on all of the music during the show - if the music would have been promoted properly, it could have been on the top of the charts. I like playing music when I have company and I have gotten a few positive comments from friends asking what the song is. She Sells, Origami, and Rebecca are the ones that people have complimented.
Emotional depth is missing from the music of today - I remember the music of the 90s, I could relate to it. There is so little of it today. I would love to meet Mack one day, if for anything just to thank her for her beautiful music.
