I came up with an alternate storyline for So Weird season three.
I know there are a lot of people out there who enjoyed season three, but the fact of the matter is that Jon Cooksey had a different idea for how the season would play out. For more information, check out the Jon Cooksey tag of FuckYeahSoWeird.
Here’s how I think they could have kept at least SOME of the story-lines going throughout the third season, instead of dropping them all. Remember, this is just something I made up, not anything official at all:
1. End “Twin” differently, obviously. The original plan was for Rick to get knocked off the building by the three-headed creature, so I think they could have had Fi decide to jump into a portal to the spirit world after him. Of course, Disney probably wouldn’t want to have one of their characters jump off a building, so they could have had the creature drag Rick back through the wall it came from and Fi follow.
Then, Jack would arrive on the scene with his aunt. At first, they’d think Fi fell but then realize there was no body on the ground, so she must have disappeared. Jack would be positive he heard Rick’s voice as well as Fiona screaming for her dad. Plus, Jack would find Fi’s ring next to the wall (let’s just say Fi’s ring doesn’t have protection in the spirit world, I don’t know).
And that’s how the episode would end.
2. The third season’s first episode would open with a flashback to “Twin,” and then “six months later” would pop up on the screen. Molly and Jack would be back at home, and Molly would obviously be devastated. She would have been pouring all of her energy into making new music. The police would be treating the case like a kidnapping, and it would be considered a cold case. We would discover that Jack had accepted that something paranormal happened to his sister. At first, he would go to Fi’s website just to see who she’d been communicating with on there (trying to convince himself this is a real world problem with a real solution), but then he would start delving into the information about the paranormal and trying to figure out what could have taken her/how he could possibly find her.
The episode would end with Molly announcing that she’s going back on tour, but the concerts would be kept secret (like those mystery concerts Myspace used to host). This way, she could search for Fi during the day and let out some of those emotions through song at night, and the kidnappers wouldn’t be aware of her movements. This part isn't really important. I just came up with it to give Molly a reason to go back out on tour.
3. Jack would be the main character this season in place of Fi, not Annie. Annie could come along, of course, but Jack’s character arc would be the focus - his acceptance of the paranormal, and his discovery of his past life as a knight (if you don’t know about that, it’s hinted at in “Strangeling”). His quest in this life would be to save his sister from the spirit world.
The season would carry out the way the earlier seasons do, with Jack finding weird stuff as he travels in his mom’s tour bus. Molly would have agreed to let Jack take a year off before starting up college, partially because she couldn’t stand the thought of losing him, too. Jack would have wanted to have all the time he needed to find a way into the spirit world. Or they could have had him take classes online, either way.
Maybe Jack would wear Fi's ring on his finger or around his neck, so they could redo "Lightning Rod" but with Jack attracting the paranormal instead of Annie. This isn't really necessary, though.
4. He’d make a lot of attempts to find someone to help him. He’d pull out the book of magic spells and try to say some incantations, but then remember that Fi was always going on about magic being passed down through the women in Molly’s side of the family. He’d try to convince Molly to recite some incantations, but she would have grown even colder to the idea of the paranormal.
Finally, he’d contact Rebecca and some of the other people Fi had helped along the way so they could tell Molly about all of the great things Fi did for them and convince her that everything Fi had been investigating was real. Molly would agree to try and recite some of the incantations. In doing so, she’d summon Bricriu and he’d take over someone’s body (maybe Clu? I don’t know). That could be a whole other episode. Somehow, they’d convince Bricriu to agree to help them find Fi.
I don’t know exactly how it would play out, but eventually, they’d find their way into the spirit world.
5. The finale would probably be a two-parter. The first episode would be about Jack actually performing whatever ritual would be necessary to open a portal (it could be something cool, like three tasks to prove your worth, I don’t know). The second episode would finally bring back Cara. Cara came back for one episode of season three (“Lighting Rod”), so why couldn’t it have been the finale?
Anyway, the last episode would bring the focus back to Fi. She would have been lost in the world of the living for months now, but for her, it would have seemed like only minutes, since time moves slower (or faster? I can’t wrap my head around it) in the spirit world (the opposite of the Nexus, I guess). Breaking Rick out of whatever prison they had him in would be something she’d do completely by herself, thanks to her own cleverness and magical abilities.
6. The show would end with Jack and Molly finding Fi and Rick in the spirit world, and a shot of the four of them crossing back over into the world of the living (reminiscent of the shot of Fi entering the room with the angel in “Angel”).
7. Storylines they could have kept going in this version:
- Fi going to hell to save her father
- Jack realizing he was a knight in a previous life
- Rebecca contacting the Phillips family again
- They could have even done an episode early on about Molly’s alcohol problem, which they were talking about doing in season two
- The book of spells/Bricriu’s return
They would have probably had to drop the alien storyline. They could have continued to investigate whatever Rick was looking into before he died, but perhaps Bricriu could help them with an incantation to seal off the spirit world permanently.
So basically, I place the blame Disney for dropping almost all of the storylines in Season Three when they could have kept some going.
If someone is reading this and wants to make a fanfic of it, that would make me really happy. I thought about doing it, but I don’t have the time or the skill.
